The portuguese publication Magazine Imobiliário awarded Eric van Leuven, Cushman & Wakefield's managing partner in Portugal, as Person of the Year 2015.
These awards honour people in the real estate, construction, environmental and tourism sectors for their work, and ongoing contribution to the respective sectors.
Eric van Leuven, managing partner of Cushman & Wakefield since its foundation in Portugal in 1991, was recognised with the award for the real estate sector.
Eric van Leuven is a Dutch citizen but has been living and working in Portugal for more than 30 years. In 1987, he co-founded the property company George Knight, along with George Knight himself.
In July 1991 the Uk's then real estate consultancy firm Healey & Baker (which several years later would merge with the US's Cushman & Wakefield) acquired the commercial property department of George Knight.
Eric van Leuven accordingly became managing partner of Healey & Baker Portugal, with a team of 5 employees, essentially dedicated to selling offices and warehouses. The company broadened its services and now has more than 80 employees, working in 8 departments, and this year was ranked the best real estate consultancy firm in Portugal in the Euromoney Real Estate Awards.
Margarida de Ordaz Caldeira, the main board director of Broadway Malyan, was also recognised, receiving the Merit Award. In the construction sector, the award went to João Appleton, engineer, partner and technical director of A2P Consult; the environmental award went to Pedro Veiga and Luis Teixeira, the founding partners of Avizaqcua / Herdade da Cortesia Hotel; and in tourism the award went to Jorge Rebelo de Almeida, Chairman of the board of directors of Vila Galé hotels.
